Package: Basic salary up to £35,000 (dependent on experience) plus benefits

About our business: Polyformes, part of Macfarlane Group, has been established for over 40 years and is recognised as Europe's largest polyethylene foam converter. Based at our Leighton Buzzard manufacturing site, we support a wide range of customers with specialist foam and protective packaging solutions.
Maintenance Technician Role: We are looking to recruit a practical, reliable and motivated Maintenance Technician to support our Leighton Buzzard manufacturing operation. This is a hands-on role where you will play a key part in maintaining site machinery, reducing downtime and supporting production performance. The role would suit someone with previous maintenance or engineering experience, or a strong practical background with the desire to develop further in a manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance to support equipment reliability and uptime.
- Respond to breakdowns, assisting with fault finding and repair activities.
- Support maintenance and repair of mechanical and basic electrical systems including motors, drives, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Assist with installation, modification and improvement of machinery and site facilities.
- Complete routine inspections in line with health and safety procedures.
- Accurately record maintenance activities and update logs and reports.
- Work closely with production teams to minimise downtime and improve efficiency.
- Provide flexibility to support site operational requirements.
What you will bring:
- Previous experience in a maintenance, engineering or hands-on technical role or strong mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn.
- Basic mechanical or electrical understanding.
- Ability to fault-find and safely use hand tools.
- Proactive approach with good problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
- IT literacy, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook for reporting.
- Team-focused with clear communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence and ability to commute daily to Leighton Buzzard.
Desirable (training can be provided):
- Mechanical or electrical qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 2 or 3).
- Experience working with motors, bearings, gearboxes or control systems.
- Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Experience maintaining machinery within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Familiarity with CMMS or digital maintenance systems.
- Interest in progressing towards electrical qualifications (17th/18th Edition).
