The project: Mace has been appointed on a framework for a transport client. The successful risk manager (project not enterprise) will work on large-scale complex rail, road, bus or even property related projects. Mace consult will provide project controls/PMO services for the new build construction work of multiple secure sites throughout the UK.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Managing and directing clients, consultants, contractors, project team on assigned commission(s) on all risk management matters.
  • Partnering with clients meeting their expectations and building strong professional relationships.
  • Providing expert advice and support to project/programme teams in the administration of the risk process, particularly with respect to the risks to achievement of key project objectives and escalation of risks.
  • Facilitating and driving the delivery of risk workshops.
  • Working with project managers to recognise opportunities and mitigations to minimise risk exposure.
  • Accountable for ensuring risk mitigation action plans are developed, risk and action owners appointed and that project plans are updated accordingly and monitored.
  • Commenting on the adequacy of contingency as part of the regular reporting cycle as required.
  • Developing and delivering monthly risk reports, externally to the client and internally to the project team.
  • Ensuring all activities/operations are carried out in line with Mace control centre, client requirements and prevailing legislation.
  • Utilising expertise to mentor and assist the personal and career development of junior members of risk team.
  • Leading the integration of risk with PMO and planning disciplines.

You’ll need to have:

  • Good understanding of construction projects, decencies and interfaces within the project lifecycle.
  • Deep domain knowledge of providing risk leadership in one or more sectors (e.g. rail, highways, nuclear, public sector, hospitals).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of current methodologies & tools related to managing projects (e.g. MS Excel, Risk Hive, PRA, ARM, Primavera P6).
  • Extremely collaborative, with ability to build excellent working relationships and have very high political sensitivity and ethics.
  • Excellent attention to detail & able to validate & check risk management inputs, recording & reports produced, providing basic commentary & analysis.
  • Ability to persuade & influence clients, consultants, suppliers & colleagues.
  • Infrastructure and complex project procurement experience.
  • A degree or equivalent with professional work experience in one or more specific disciplines in the construction, programme, project or commercial management disciplines.
  • Achieved or are working towards Membership/fellow/certified fellow status with one or more professional institutions.
