The project: Our client is one of the largest water companies in the UK, responsible for water and wastewater services in England. Their purpose is to deliver their services in an environmentally sustainable, economically beneficial, and socially responsible manner and create sustainable long-term value for all. We currently provide the client with a range of services focused on programme and project management and are always looking for opportunities to deliver more value through the provision of expert and strategic staff.

To plan and lead the successful delivery of a programme of works being delivered by an ‘Area delivery team’ made up of the client’s partners and contractors in accordance with their corporate values and following requirements:

  • Health and safety strategy – personnel safety, process safety and health and wellbeing
  • Target operating model – system thinking, situational awareness and production line thinking
  • Outcomes – regulatory, customer and resilience

To be the interface between the area delivery team and the business at a senior level and will be required to manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the capital programme in line with their business strategy.

You will deliver and manage project plans from project inception/brief, through design development and planning, contractor procurement and construction phase in accordance with the overall delivery program and agreed project milestones. You will manage tasks and associated deliverables in support of senior project managers and other leaders, alongside the wider project and client teams, to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of the project. Owning projects throughout the project lifecycle from concept to handover and closeout. Preparing, updating and implementing the project management plan whilst proactively monitoring overall progress, the interdependencies and resolving issues/mitigating risks and initiating corrective action as appropriate. Driving the design development, initiating surveys and site visits as necessary in order to write the works information in line with the project business case. Undertaking the contract administration responsibilities and have a thorough understanding of the NEC3/4 suite of contracts. Ensuring projects are delivered to the right quality, in the time allocated and at, or below the approved budget. Writing specifications, tender and contract documents to include project risk registers, schedules and others with the assistance of procurement and production colleagues formally assess tenders in readiness for contract award. Ensuring compliance with the requirements of project environmental, CDM 2015, health and safety, water quality and environmental standards, WIMES, and statutory legislation. Undertaking regular reviews, inspections and audits. Managing contractors to ensure that the execution of projects is undertaken to the satisfaction of our client. Contract administration of numerous projects dealing with payments, EWN, CE’s and etc. Undertaking timely third-party liaisons, e.g. planning applications, land/access, power supply negotiations etc. in line with the project programme. Understanding client requirements and have strong stakeholder engagement to deal with complex third-party relations.

  • Create opportunity - For our people to excel: You will manage design and wider consultant teams in a collaborative manner to ensure effective completion of responsibilities. You will manage the project team and relevant stakeholders to achieve strategic project key performance indicators (KPIs). You will actively network and seek understanding of best practice, utilising the full depth of knowledge of Mace group, the centres of excellence, Mace way control centre and knowledge hub.

You will need to have:

  • A degree in engineering, construction and/or project management discipline and a member of a relevant institute such as ICE, IMechE, IET, IChemE or RICS.
  • You have completed and passed the APM project management qualification (PMQ) course.
  • To work seconded to the client, working in the northwest of England. Although the main HQ is based in Warrington, you will also be required to travel to multiple sites.
  • Water sector experience is preferred although experience within a regulated infrastructure environment will also be considered. For this role, 10+ years project management experience is required.
  • Digitally savvy and have familiarity in using a project, programme and financial management tools such as Oracle and Primavera P6.
  • You can build lasting client relationships and lead strong, motivated teams.
  • To be experienced in managing large or multiple infrastructure/capital projects in a consultancy background, preferably within the water utility sector, and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
  • A Full UK Driving Licence is essential.

You will also have:

  • Membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Property or infrastructure project management expertise.
  • Commercial and financial acumen.
  • Experience of working on projects within large, diverse teams.
  • Experience of developing and forming relationships with other stakeholders within projects.
  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
