We are looking to appoint a Health and Safety Manager to join our Defence team in Preston supporting a major long‑term programme operating within air system and Defence environments. In this role, you will provide visible HSW leadership and guidance across one or more programmes driving the implementation and compliance of Health, Safety and Wellbeing standards, policies and procedures while supporting project teams to deliver safe and successful outcomes.

The role is due to commence in late autumn to early winter and sits within an integrated client team operating in a secure and highly regulated environment.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Driving the implementation and compliance of HSW policies, procedures and standards across assigned project.
  • Managing and supporting preparation for external ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 (and other relevant) standards.
  • Monitoring, coordinating and undertaking HSW inspections and audits, supporting audit schedules and assurance activities.
  • Analysing reporting data, KPIs, audit findings and corrective actions to identify gaps and implement improvement plans.
  • Supporting and managing incident investigations in line with business procedures.
  • Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of HSW standards, processes and ways of working.
  • Building strong relationships with internal teams, clients and supply chain partners.
  • Managing stakeholders effectively across project environments.
  • Supporting the delivery of net zero carbon objectives through proactive identification and management of associated impacts.

You’ll need to have:

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain UK security clearance.
  • Strong knowledge of HSW legislation, management systems, auditing and risk management.
  • Experience providing HSW support within relevant sectors or project environments.
  • Ability to analyse and present technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proactive, solutions focused approach with strong attention to detail.
  • A formal qualification in safety management (Level 3, e.g. NEBOSH certificate or equivalent) and additional H&S qualifications.
