The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for the technical, commercial, and financial management of projects to ensure successful delivery against defined project and wider business objectives.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Directing and managing multidisciplinary project teams across the full lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, delivery, and handover, to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Championing a culture of world-class health, safety, and environmental performance across the project and its supply chain, ensuring the highest standards are consistently met.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that may impact project delivery or operational environments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Delivering projects in line with defined cost, schedule, and quality targets, ensuring a smooth and successful handover to Operations and/or Commercial teams, including the completion of all operational readiness planning and activities.
  • Developing and managing project teams by setting clear standards, motivating, coaching, and mentoring individuals, while recognising and nurturing high-potential talent.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements, including adherence to applicable standards, codes, and planning approvals.
  • Managing and positively influencing key stakeholders, both internal and external, to support successful project outcomes.
  • Managing the capture and application of lessons learned, embedding a culture of continuous improvement across all projects.

You’ll need to have:

  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in programme management, architecture, engineering, or a construction-related discipline; Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Professional qualification in project management at practitioner level (e.g. APMP or PRINCE2 Practitioner).
  • Proven experience (typically 5+ years) operating as a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager on large, complex, multi-year projects, typically valued at £50m+, within a relevant sector, including management of external suppliers.
  • Experience delivering major civil engineering or infrastructure projects within live operational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams, ideally of 10 or more individuals.
  • Experience managing multiple, concurrent and interfacing projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas to a range of audiences, including senior stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving capability with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Ability to manage complex and potentially conflicting stakeholder requirements.
  • Sound commercial and financial acumen; knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of contract administration and negotiation processes.
  • Experience working in complex, regulated or operationally sensitive environments is advantageous.
  • Demonstrates resilience, adaptability, and the ability to manage ambiguity effectively.
