The Project Manager leads the planning and execution of strategically important projects within a complex, live operational environment. The role is responsible for the technical, commercial, and financial performance of a portfolio of projects, ensuring successful delivery aligned to project and wider business objectives.
Principal Accountabilities- Lead and manage the project team across design, procurement, construction, delivery, and handover to achieve defined outcomes.
- Champion and embed a culture of excellence in health, safety, and environmental performance across the project and its associated supply chain.
- Identify and mitigate risks that may impact project delivery or disrupt operations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Deliver projects to agreed cost, schedule, and quality targets, ensuring a smooth and effective handover to operational and/or commercial teams, including readiness planning where required.
- Develop and lead high-performing teams, setting clear standards and providing coaching, mentoring, and direction.
- Ensure full compliance with all legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements, including applicable standards and planning permissions.
- Manage and influence key internal and external stakeholders to support successful project outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and best practice sharing across projects.
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in programme management, architecture, engineering, construction, or a related discipline (civil engineering highly desirable).
- Professional project management qualification (e.g. APM PMQ, PRINCE2 Practitioner).
- Demonstrable experience (typically 5+ years) delivering large-scale or complex infrastructure/civil engineering projects, with values typically exceeding £10m.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage external suppliers within complex delivery environments.
- Experience managing multiple, concurrent and interfacing projects is desirable.
- Experience delivering projects within live operational environments is advantageous.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement capability.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Commercially astute, with sound financial awareness.
- Strong problem-solving ability with a practical, solution-focused approach.
- Ability to manage complex stakeholder requirements and competing priorities.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts and contract administration desirable.
- Resilient, adaptable, and comfortable operating in ambiguous or evolving environments.
