The project: Working as part of Mace’s multi-disciplinary team for Ministry of Justice to deliver their expansive programme across their estate portfolio. The programme is responding at pace to work across multiple workstreams to support the MoJs aims to gain pricing, programme, quality and social value benefits from the collaborative delivery approach.
The Associate Director leads integrated commercial, procurement and delivery activities across major programmes, ensuring seamless end‑to‑end service. With a focus on modular construction, the role drives value‑led commercial management and ensures client objectives are achieved through high‑quality, consistent and collaborative programme delivery.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Managing a cost and commercial team of 2 - 4 Mace team members and be the cost and commercial lead reporting into the Mace sector lead and manage coordination of a third-party cost consultant team.
- Acting as a critical friend to Mace team and client in a client facing role.
- Accountable for the strategy, delivery and programme for procurement including tender activities, evaluation, recommendation and appointment of the Contractors.
- Completing monthly valuations and commercial reviews.
- Preparing recommendations for interim payments to suppliers in accordance with contract requirements and produce payment certificates for sign off.
- Managing and implementing robust change management procedures and commercial workshops and participating in risk reviews.
- Providing post contract award commercial services for both 'goods' and 'services' up to and including final account.
- Analysing cost performance data and provide relevant input for monthly performance reports. Responsible for dashboard cost reporting and presenting to the client.
- Management, performance and development of commercial managers/contract administration of all works.
- Supporting cost management, supply chain trending estimating and cashflow forecasting.
- Primary point of contact for commercial relationships with cost consultant team.
You’ll need to have:
- Strong commercial experience with high‑performing teams.
- Solid knowledge of NEC contracts, change control and cost management.
- Skilled in negotiation, communication and client‑focused delivery.
- Degree - qualified with chartered status (RICS/CIOB) and a cost/commercial management background.
