Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey.

The role is for a developer specializing in the development of applied AI solutions, including knowledge agents embedded in SharePoint. It is a client-facing role supporting fee-earning projects and programmes. As part of your role, you will interface with the Mace project team and occasionally stakeholders from other organisations, if working on a joint venture project or directly for a client. You will be part of the Digital Centre of Excellence community, sharing knowledge and experience with other Digital professionals. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from and amongst experienced practitioners and further develop your technical skill set.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Working autonomously on smaller or low complexity projects, or as part of a larger project team responsible for a particular deliverable or area of delivery.
  • Contributing to the development of digital tools, processes and outputs, including agentic data interfaces, that support the wider project team and enable better delivery of projects for our clients.
  • Adhering to a structured development lifecycle that includes requirements definition, design, development and testing, user acceptance testing, deployment, handover and post-implementation support.
  • Gathering basic requirements and creating a task list to manage your own deliverables, including maintaining regular contact with direct stakeholders.
  • Attending all training and other sessions organised by the centre of excellence, contributing through presentation of sessions or content aligned to your interests.
  • Keeping your knowledge of commercial AI models and tools up to date through self-directed learning and independent exploration of new tools and functionality.

You’ll need to have:

  • Experience designing and building AI agents or agentic workflows that retrieve, compare, reason over and summarise enterprise content.
  • Ability to design traceable outputs with citations and audit trails, with the ability to explain where AI is summarising source material versus creating new content.
  • Strong hands-on capability across Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Power Platform, including some experience of Copilot for 365 and Copilot Studio.
  • Ability to build or integrate with document stores, structured registers and unstructured files, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDFs, SharePoint libraries, metadata and version histories.
  • Strong general software engineering fundamentals: clean code, modular design, testing, CI/CD, secure deployment and maintainability.
  • Ability to estimate cost, usage and operational run-rate for AI solutions.
  • A level of comfort designing model-agnostic architectures where required.
  • Evidence of building solutions where explainability and adoption matter as much as technical capability.

Our values:

  • Safety first - Going home safe and well: We champion a safe, diverse and inclusive working environment, understanding the importance of wellbeing in every team.
  • Client focus - Deliver on our promise: We own the quality of deliverables, strategic outcomes and build long term relationships with our clients.
  • Integrity - Always do the right thing: We influence positive outcomes within our industry, while always aligning with our compliance obligations.
  • Create opportunity - For our people to excel: We champion a continuous improvement culture throughout all activities, inspiring our people and teams to develop.

Mace is an inclusive employer and welcomes interest from a diverse range of candidates. Even if you feel you do not fulfil all the criteria, please apply as you may still be the best candidate for this role or another role within our organisation. We are also open to discussing part time, flexible, and hybrid working options if suitable within the role.

How to prepare for a job interview at Mace

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Mace uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
