The Project Manager reports directly to a Delivery Manager (usually a Senior Project Manager) and is responsible for the direction and leadership of activities associated with the full life cycle delivery of a contract or work package assigned to them. The role ensures delivery of all engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning activities in accordance with the overall project schedule, and meets safety, quality, time and cost parameters.
Responsibilities
- Defining the work scope to be delivered within the contract or package of work and the interfaces to the other elements of the programme. Embed the scope in the various governance documents and ensure consistency of scope description across documents.
- Supporting the SPM and the Commercial team in the development of budgets for the works and the periodic reporting on those budgets.
- Ensuring level 3 schedules are developed and maintained for the contract or package of work, ensuring consistency with overall project schedules (levels 1 and 2) and escalating discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Coordinating with the Quality teams and identifying, capturing and implementing Quality Management as per the NNB SZC management systems, with specific attention to off‑site QM requirements.
- Developing and implementing the programme execution plan (PEP) and defining the implementing strategies and plans to deliver the works, detailing the "why", "what", "how", "when" and "who" for the programme.
- Assisting in securing the required resources to meet project requirements, ensuring the maintenance of SQEP for any assigned resource and promptly identifying any personnel shortfalls or issues within the project team.
- Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and executing the project or PEP strategies within their contract or package of work.
- Supporting the SPM, Commercial and Procurement teams in the development and implementation of sourcing strategies and tender documents, responding to tender queries, meeting with suppliers if required and providing input to tender technical reviews.
- Driving the delivery of the contract or package activities to ensure they are delivered safely, on time, to budget, and meet business and technical requirements. Monitoring and managing progress against milestones, deadlines and budget, and providing key stakeholders with reports.
- Anticipating, managing and resolving issues within the contract or package, identifying risks, facilitating resolution of all issues raised, updating the programme budget, and escalating issues to the Delivery Manager (Programme Manager or Director).
- Providing written and oral reports and weekly and monthly reports to the SPM, and engaging with management for progress presentations, covering progress, cost, H&S and environment, production rates, stakeholder relationships, etc.
- Reviewing contractor supplied Level 3 and 16‐week rolling schedules.
Qualifications
- Proven delivery in complex, regulated environments with strong safety, security, and environmental focus.
- Expertise across EPCM delivery, engineering strategy, and contract execution.
- Strong commercial acumen managing cost, risk, schedule, change, and claims.
- Effective stakeholder engagement with clear communication and influencing skills.
- Experience managing contractors under NEC/FIDIC within major construction programmes.
- Degree‑qualified, chartered professional with CDM and project management knowledge (APM/PRINCE2).
