Overview Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. The project is Sizewell C, building a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK to secure a low-carbon energy future. The SZC project is a diverse and collaborative organisation committed to engaging stakeholders, obtaining development consent and preparing for construction. Mace has supported Sizewell C since 2011 and continues as a key framework supplier across various workstreams.
The Geotechnical Engineer will be part of the engineering and technical function within the civil work programme, reporting to the Geotechnical Manager, to manage geotechnical risks, set up and endorse geotechnical requirements on behalf of the SZC Client and ensure the requirements are being followed by Designers and Contractors. This role is based in our London office with hybrid working available.
Responsibilities
- Supporting onshore and offshore ground investigations.
- Managing site trials and ground improvement activities.
- Overseeing earthworks and material testing.
- Managing groundwater control and flood-prevention measures.
- Supporting foundations, marine works and tunnelling.
- Assessing ground movements near nuclear assets.
- Maintaining the digital ground model.
- Overseeing instrumentation and monitoring.
- Coordinating with designers and delivery teams.
- Engaging with regulators and key stakeholders.
Requirements
- Strong geotechnical expertise across design and construction stages.
- Proven experience delivering complex multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Chartered civil or geotechnical engineer with a relevant degree.
- Effective communicator with understanding of construction, design and stakeholder interfaces.
