Role Overview
A Site‑Based Environmental Advisor who supports the construction delivery team to manage environmental and sustainability aspects effectively. The position is based on site and collaborates with Tier 1 partners across the project. Location: Sizewell, Suffolk, England.
You’ll Be Responsible For
- Undertaking site inspections of contractors’ work areas and reporting environmental issues where necessary.
- Providing written and verbal advice on environmental legislation, permits, and planning constraints.
- Reviewing contractors’ environmental management plans and RAMs for compliance with regulations and SZC standards.
- Supporting self‑assessment and internal audit of site activities.
- Leading investigations of environmental incidents and reporting findings and recommended actions.
- Recognising contractual issues and escalating to the Environmental and Sustainability Manager as required.
Operating Environment
The post holder works within the Development Consent Order and other environmental frameworks, building collaborative relationships with SZC client team representatives and service providers.
Framework & Boundaries
Environmental performance and sustainability achievements are paramount to zero harm and will be closely monitored by internal and external stakeholders.
You’ll Need To Have
- Experience in an environmental management role on a dynamic construction or industrial project (site based).
- Detailed knowledge of UK environmental legislation relevant to construction or industrial installations.
- Awareness of client/contractor relationships and legal responsibilities under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
- Ability to work independently with excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Degree qualified or equivalent in an environmental or related discipline.
- Experience with an environmental management system conforming to recognised standards (BS EN ISO14001:2004).
