Responsibilities include leading a multi-billion long-term programme of works to increase national prison capacity for the Ministry of Justice, acting as a senior member of the national programme leadership team. The incumbent will manage multiple projects or a sub-programme and oversee associated teams across a range of delivery partner services from inception to post-completion.

Key responsibilities:

  • Advocate Mace’s value of Safety First, exhibit visible safety behaviours, share lessons learned and emphasise the physical and mental wellbeing of the wider team.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in relevant Health and Safety rules and regulations for new build and refurbishment projects in the UK.
  • Champion a diverse and inclusive working environment.
  • Promote sustainable initiatives through teams and construction KPIs.
  • Ensure successful delivery of key assignments and defined business areas, providing strategic direction and monitoring delivery aligned with overall vision and objectives.
  • Oversee project timeframes and budgets, ensuring diligent management and proactively addressing risks, challenges and mitigations.
  • Drive consistency in delivery approach across project teams working alongside the Project Management Office (PMO), upholding the use of established processes and governance procedures.
  • Establish a strong understanding of our scope of services and support the team in meeting these at a high standard, integrating with the wider Project and Programme Management Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Mace.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships and actively drive collaboration between all parties, including the client, consultant team and external/project stakeholders.
  • Be responsible for project budgets and ensure operations are fiscally and ethically viable, meeting organisational and legislative compliance obligations.
  • Commit to making a positive impact for our people, clients and planet, and hold others accountable who do not uphold the Mace values.
  • Utilise subject-matter expertise and leadership skills to coach and develop team members, managing performance and career plans.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for account growth to increase support to the MoJ, developing an understanding of their strategic needs and Mace’s wider capabilities.
  • Assist with resource management across projects/sub-programme, proactively hiring to maintain retention of project knowledge and continuity of services to the MoJ, and establishing a high-performing diverse team.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of previous work experience in project management (or equivalent).
  • MAPM/MCIOB/MRICS/MICE or equivalent qualification.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related project management or construction discipline, or a non-related degree with equivalent professional experience/apprenticeship, combined with intermediate role knowledge.
  • Appropriate Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
  • Proven experience managing small to medium and large-sized projects.
  • Proven understanding of project management methodologies and practices.
  • Proven understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, DfMA and MMC.
  • Developed communication, presentation and project planning and development skills.
  • Proactively manage internal budgets and fees, delivering agreed outcomes.
  • Experience delivering projects under NEC forms of contract.
  • Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.
  • Experience managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in communicating, negotiating and collaborating with contractors and stakeholders.
