We are looking for a full-time senior sustainability manager to support new projects and programmes. The successful candidate will join the existing Responsible Business team in the UK and deliver client-facing consultancy services including the advisory, management and co-ordination of various climate change, sustainability and/or social value related activities on projects and programmes.

The successful candidate will lead defined sustainability workstreams across a major infrastructure programme, focusing on sustainability strategy development and BREEAM management. They will contribute to the effective risk management of sustainability issues on the programme and provide insight and guidance into design optioneering. The role includes providing technical leadership to junior staff and driving delivery across partners and consultant teams.

The responsibilities of the senior sustainability manager are to:

  • Lead the development of client sustainability management systems, climate change, and sustainability strategies on individual projects, ensuring their delivery by the project team.
  • Manage delivery of the Client’s BREEAM process, setting strategies and standards, and embedding principles across the programme.
  • Coordinate the social value team in the development of the social value strategy.
  • Manage a team of Sustainability Managers, and/or Assistant Sustainability Managers.
  • Apply skills and experience across a range of sustainability disciplines and promote innovation in sustainability.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Support work winning through bid support, innovation, client liaison, upskilling of colleagues and external profile-raising of Mace/Mace services.
  • Support the drive for Mace to be a leader in climate change and sustainability.

The person will have the following attributes:

  • Extensive experience of sustainability management in major infrastructure, or in large programme environments.
  • Demonstrable experience leading sustainability topics or strategy development, while contributing to design development.
  • Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation, planning policy, and best practice approaches.
  • Proven experience influencing design development to achieve best in class sustainability performance improvements.
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholders, negotiate outcomes, and represent the programme at senior technical forums.
  • Degree-qualified with professional accreditation (MISEP, CEnv, ISEP Practitioner or equivalent).
