The Health and Safety Advisor will work as part of a team of Health and Safety Advisors providing the highest standard of advice and support to the HPC CDM Client and Principal Contractor management teams. Working in a collaborative, assertive and supportive manner, the Health and Safety Advisor will undertake a range of safety programme-based activities which include day to day provision of technical advice and guidance on all project health and safety matters and risk based intelligent monitoring all of which contributes to EDF Energy’s goal of zero harm.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Participating in creating, maintaining, and improving health and safety standards across the workplace.
  • Influencing multidisciplinary teams on health and safety matters relating to pre-construction planning and project development.
  • Developing project-specific health and safety risk profiles to support risk-based inspections and assurance activities.
  • Providing assurance that Designers and Principal Contractors are complying with the requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).
  • Participating in and advising on constructability, maintainability, and operability reviews as a subject matter expert.
  • Undertaking site inspections, conducting accident investigations, maintaining records, and preparing reports.
  • Coordinating and collating information for scheduled health and safety reports, identifying trends, early warnings, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Carrying out audits of construction activities to ensure compliance with the Construction Phase Plan.
  • Providing advice on the interpretation and application of health and safety management systems.
  • Delivering relevant health and safety training, briefings, and awareness sessions.
  • Conducting regular behavioural safety conversations with contractors and site personnel.
  • Proactively developing and implementing initiatives that promote a zero-tolerance approach to HSE issues.
  • Increasing awareness and engagement on health, safety, and environmental matters across the project.
  • Collaborating with peers and other disciplines to create integrated policies, systems, and processes while avoiding duplication of effort.
  • Contributing as an effective and active member of the health, safety, and environmental team.

You’ll need to have:

  • Demonstrating excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across large organisations and the construction industry.
  • Applying a results-focused approach while maintaining strong team collaboration.
  • Analysing complex technical information and identifying underlying risks and issues.
  • Taking a forward-looking approach to identifying emerging risks and impacts.
  • Communicating complex concepts and data clearly to a range of audiences using different communication methods.
  • Engaging stakeholders on technical health and safety matters and maintaining their interest and commitment.
  • Sharing knowledge, developing capability in others, and applying practical solutions to technical challenges.
  • Demonstrating a good understanding of large-scale organisations, process plants, site operations, and construction environments.
  • Establishing vision and implementing strategies to achieve health and safety objectives.
  • Maintaining excellent knowledge of national and international HSE standards.
  • Demonstrating strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and their practical application.
  • Delivering excellent safety performance on major engineering and construction projects.
  • Possessing significant HSE experience within large and complex project environments.
  • Demonstrating experience in coordinating contractors and resolving health and safety interface issues across high-risk operations.
  • Holding Tech IOSH (or equivalent) certification.
  • Holding a NEBOSH HSE Diploma or equivalent European qualification.
  • Demonstrating excellent knowledge and practical application of CDM Regulations.
