About The Project
Curzon Street station is a new £800m HS2 project in Birmingham city centre. The station development, whilst forming part of the new HS2 network between London and the North, will provide a catalyst for development across the East side of Birmingham. As a leading station, Curzon Street strives to provide a centre of excellence for the development of best practice reporting and management models.
About The Role
Manage the review and delivery of all aspects of the design of the Curzon Street HS2 Station. The role includes management of programme, budget and the compliance of the design to HS2 standards, to achieve a high quality, safe, compliant, and timely design at the lowest reasonable cost.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage the MEP design delivery as set out in the Mace Dragados HS2 Engage as set out in the Design Management Plan.
- Support the development of an integrated design programme through Detailed and Manufacturing Design phases, so scope is packaged to support procurement & construction needs, and deliverables are issued as necessary for the stakeholders.
- Review the MEP design consultants and CDP contractors MEP design deliverables and provide comment regarding good design process, adherence to the Design Responsibility Matrix, integration with other disciplines and technical appropriateness of the solutions shown.
- Assist in the development of the MEP BIM Model, providing comment on the appropriateness of the solutions shown with regard to constructability and commissionability.
- Liaise with Consultants/Designers and support consistent and compliant solutions for fire and acoustic stopping and treatment.
- Review designs regarding compliance against appropriate rail requirements.
- Support the development of the design to achieve a safe, buildable, operational and maintainable asset.
- Engage the Construction Team/Early Works Contractor.
- Lead by example demonstrating a culture of collaborative working.
- Actively engage with the quality team to provide all necessary documentation for technical sign-off of the MEP design as is required through the contract.
- Support Sustainability Manager and engage with the BREEAM process.
- Provide support to the project controls process including – change control, RFI’s, risk management, contract notices/EWN’s and progress and cost reporting.
- Lead process with an uncompromising commitment to safety, and collaborate with Principal Designer HS2 Ltd.
What You’ll Bring
- Membership of RIBA, MICE, CIBSE, CIOB, RICS, CIAT or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
- Mechanical package design experience.
- Knowledge of Building Safety legislation, Building standards, construction contracts, professional appointments and Health & Safety legislation.
- Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.
- Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Extensive experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes in the rail sector.
- Experience working with design consultants.
- Deep construction and consultancy expertise.
- Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
