We are looking for a talented Assistant Project Manager to support the safe and successful delivery of the Civils package of works as part of a major infrastructure upgrade at HMNB Devonport. You will help plan, direct, manage and oversee the implementation of works, ensuring that all objectives are delivered within the agreed schedule, budget and defined health, safety and quality parameters. The role requires strong communication and collaboration with the client, contractors, subcontractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.

Note: Due to the nature of this Defence project, candidates must be eligible to obtain security clearance (SC). Existing SC clearance is highly desirable.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Supporting the NSST and Enabling Works Package Manager in day-to-day package delivery.
  • Assisting in the management of the berth wall strengthening package from design through to close‑out.
  • Supporting the design development process, including reviewing and engaging with design submissions.
  • Helping manage procurement activities, including reviewing and appointing subcontractors with the commercial team.
  • Providing support to construction managers and monitoring site progress against programme.
  • Managing and reviewing contractor reporting and dashboarding.
  • Attending progress meetings with the client and supply chain, and chairing meetings when required.
  • Monitoring contractor design, programme deliverables and safe systems of work.
  • Overseeing key quality sign‑offs, FAT activities and technical document submissions.
  • Assisting with the review of changes, RFIs, TQs and advising on scope or programme impacts.

You’ll need to have:

  • Experience in reinforced concrete construction and temporary works.
  • Experience with engineering design processes.
  • Familiarity with NEC4 contract management and procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of construction contract administration systems (e.g., CEMAR).
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Experience working in regulated industries (nuclear, aviation, rail, or similar).
  • Understanding of relevant design and quality standards such as Eurocodes and British Standards.
  • Awareness of key legislation including HASAWA 1974, CDM 2015, PUWER 1998 and LOLER 1998.
  • Relevant qualification (Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent) and CSCS card.
