Overview

In this senior cost consultant role within Mace's Defence team, you will lead cost management across diverse projects, from feasibility to final account. You will apply value management, manage cost planning and procurement advice, and interface with clients and multi-disciplinary teams. You will drive improvements to cost procedures and internal systems while delivering commercial guidance throughout the project lifecycle. This role offers exposure to MEP-focused, sustainable technologies and a chance to shape outcomes for high-stakes Defence projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct feasibility studies, advise on procurement strategies and contract selection, and prepare procurement reports
  • Apply value management techniques from the outset of a project
  • Manage estimating and cost-planning activities, including ownership of final cost plans
  • Negotiate and agree final accounts
  • Act as a key interface with clients, stakeholders and other consultants across all project stages
  • Manage contractual frameworks and standard forms of contract
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates, products and services for clients
  • Identify and implement improvements to internal systems and processes
  • Provide commercial and cost advice throughout the project lifecycle

Key requirements

  • Degree qualified in quantity surveying, cost management, engineering or equivalent
  • MRICS/RICS (preferred)
  • Experience in a cost consultancy role (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong knowledge of MEP and sustainable technologies across multiple sectors
  • Experience with JCT and NEC forms of contract
  • Cost planning, budgeting and estimating experience
  • Knowledge of contract administration
  • Knowledge of value engineering and life-cycle costing
  • Understanding of sustainability, social value and carbon reduction, especially in the public sector
  • Experience delivering CapEx versus OpEx cost analysis and advice
