We are looking for an experienced Sustainability Manager or Senior Manager to support a significant Mace Construct project in the Oxford area. The successful candidate will join the Sustainability and Social Value team, delivering onsite environmental and sustainability services. The role will also support our wider corporate ambitions, including reducing carbon emissions and achievement of KPIs.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading the development and delivery of carbon reduction measures and sustainability strategies on individual projects, ensuring clear outcomes and accountability of delivery across the project team.
- Managing and coaching sustainability professionals, fostering a culture of learning and continuous development.
- Acting as a sustainability technical expert in areas such as waste, energy, embodied/operational carbon, water, responsible sourcing of materials, sustainable buildings certificates.
- Translating technical information into clear accessible language and articulating the value and impact of sustainability initiatives.
- Supporting work winning activities including bid support, client engagement, and external positioning through external events to raise Mace’s profile.
- Championing climate action and continuous improvement across projects, driving measurable, purpose-led outcomes.
- Ensuring compliance and delivery of all legal, client and Mace sustainability requirements, including green building certifications.
- Supporting the delivery of Mace’s Corporate Sustainability Strategy through project contributions to business plan KPIs and targets.
- Horizon scanning to understand evolving client and market needs and maintain relevant competencies.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, regulators and wider stakeholders.
- Representing Mace at industry forums, working groups and clients presentations.
- Engaging regularly with clients and consultants, sharing knowledge, providing updates and insights, and presenting case studies, while delivering in a way that exceeds expectations and remains fully achievable.
- Managing data quality (i.e. QA of datasets) and identifying actionable insights to improve performance.
- Drive innovation, track benefits, and ensure agreed outcomes are both ambitious and deliverable.
Skills and Experience required:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience of delivering green building certifications; BREEAM or WELL AP qualification highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of embodied carbon in construction.
- Experience in developing, and/or implementing environmental management systems on projects.
- Leadership skills with the ability to drive change and influence stakeholders.
- Effective problem solving and negotiation, and decision-making capabilities.
- Strong administration and IT skills – advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to work across all organisational levels and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to persuade and influence stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work autonomously.
- Strong interpersonal skills (i.e., empathetic listening) and adaptability across diverse environments.
