The Project

Since 2019, Mace and Dragados, working as MDJV, have led the design and construction of HS2 Euston. As part of an integrated team with HS2, MDJV coordinates delivery of the high speed station, including platforms, concourse and links to the London Underground within one of the country’s most complex urban environments. The station features six deep level high speed platforms, positioned around 9 metres below street level and designed to support trains up to 400m in length.

The role

The Temporary Works Lead (TWL) leads all aspects of Temporary Works across the Project, including coordination, submission, compliance, programming, governance and technical assurance of Temporary Works design and implementation. The Temporary Works Lead is responsible for fulfilling the Construction Partner’s duties under BS 5975 and the Employer’s Temporary Works Procedure, ensuring full compliance with HS2 requirements, industry standards, and third party asset protection obligations. In addition, the Temporary Works Lead will undertake Responsible Engineer (RE) responsibilities for Temporary Works, being accountable for the technical review and acceptance of Temporary Works designs produced by subcontractors and specialist designers, in accordance with the Temporary Works Procedure and applicable assurance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all Temporary Works activities across the project.
  • Act as the primary interface between designers, subcontractors and site teams.
  • Coordinate Temporary Works across multiple work packages and interfaces.
  • Develop, implement and uphold the Temporary Works Procedure on site.
  • Define, allocate and oversee all Temporary Works roles and responsibilities.
  • Appoint and manage Temporary Works Coordinators and Supervisors.
  • Maintain registers for Temporary Works appointments, training and competency.
  • Undertake Responsible Engineer duties, reviewing and accepting TW designs.
  • Provide formal acceptance, acceptance with comments or rejection of TW designs.
  • Ensure designs comply with briefs, standards, assurance and checking requirements.
  • Manage Temporary Works assurance where third-party assets are affected.
  • Ensure Engineering Design Briefs are prepared and approved before design starts.
  • Maintain a robust Temporary Works Register and change control process.
  • Oversee safe implementation, inspection and permitting of Temporary Works.
  • Authorise dismantling following confirmation of permanent works stability.

You’ll need to have

  • Experience in a senior Temporary Works leadership role on a major infrastructure or complex construction project.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline; HNC/HND may be acceptable where supported by significant experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (ICE, IStructE or equivalent) or working towards chartership.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator qualification (CITB or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable experience reviewing and accepting Temporary Works designs on behalf of a Principal Contractor.
  • Experience working with third party assurance regimes (e.g. Network Rail, LU/TfL) is desirable.
