We are seeking a Sustainability Manager committed to supporting and driving sustainability across Mace Construct projects. Working as part of the Sustainability and Social Value team, you will be actively implementing sustainability requirements throughout design, construction and handover. This role is ideal for an early-career sustainability professional building technical knowledge, gaining site experience and strengthening stakeholder engagement capability in a live construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Delivery
- Supporting the implementation of project sustainability strategies, targets and action plans.
- Delivering core sustainability themes, including carbon (embodied and operational), energy, materials, waste, water, biodiversity and responsible sourcing.
- Enabling the achievement of green building certifications (BREEAM, LEED, WELL, NABERS) by gathering, organising and submitting evidence.
- Attending project, design and subcontractor meetings and embedding sustainability requirements into construction activities.
- Monitoring and tracking legal, client and Mace sustainability obligations and progress.
- Data, Reporting and Compliance
- Collecting, validating and reporting sustainability data and KPIs.
- Maintaining and updating project trackers for carbon, waste, materials, certifications and client requirements.
- Preparing sustainability reports, dashboards and client updates to support progress transparency.
- Supporting audits, inspections and assurance reviews by providing evidence and closing required actions.
- Technical Development
- Developing technical capability in carbon management, material resource efficiency and circular economy.
- Applying best-practice standards, guidance and benchmarks in project delivery.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement and capturing lessons learned for wider sharing.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborating with project teams, designers, subcontractors and consultants to maintain a joined-up sustainability approach.
- Communicating sustainability requirements clearly and accessibly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Supporting senior sustainability managers by providing inputs for client engagement, briefings and presentations.
- Work Winning and Business Support
- Contributing sustainability inputs, case studies and supporting information for bid and tender submissions.
- Sharing knowledge and supporting continuous improvement across the Construct sustainability team.
- Representing Mace values and championing a positive sustainability culture across project teams.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in sustainability, environmental management, engineering, construction or related discipline.
- Understanding of sustainability in the built environment, particularly construction.
- Awareness of carbon reduction, resource efficiency and sustainable construction principles.
- Strong organisation skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work on construction sites and undertake travel as required.
- Desirable
- Experience supporting sustainability delivery on construction projects.
- Familiarity with BREEAM, PAS 2080, whole-life carbon and responsible sourcing frameworks.
- Interest in or progress toward professional accreditation (e.g., IEMA, CIBSE, ICE, RICS).
