MacDonald Search Group is a national permanent placement recruiting firm and we recruit on behalf of hiring companies. Our client is a growing Canadian engineering organization and manufacturer who is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the development of advanced automation systems and integrated engineering technologies. This role is ideal for a hands‑on technical people leader with strong cross‑discipline experience in mechanical, electrical, controls, and software integration who is excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing product line!

MUST HAVE: previous people leadership experience of a minimum team size of 3.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical direction for multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Oversee full product development from concept, to testing and launch.
  • Approve architecture, design reviews, documentation, and technical decisions.
  • Support troubleshooting, validation, and continuous improvement.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical specifications.
  • Manage external engineering partners and ensure deliverable quality.
  • Mentor engineers and support team capability growth.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
  • Experience leading engineering teams within automation, machinery, or integrated systems - previous people leadership experience is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of system‑level design across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
  • Solid problem‑solving, communication, and project leadership skills.
  • Experience with tools such as SolidWorks; knowledge of controls / PLC platforms is an asset.
