The Role

• The post-holder will contribute to the delivery and assessment of practical engineering qualifications, particularly focusing on workshop-based learning.

This role is essential in supporting the increased curriculum hours within the Engineering department.

• The successful candidate will support learners in achieving academic success and developing industry-ready skills, particularly through high-quality, practical sessions delivered in the engineering workshop.
• Teaching on a range of Level 1–3 Engineering programmes.
• Responsibility for delivering workshop-based sessions and supporting hands-on learning.
• The post may require course management responsibility.

Main Duties for this role include

• To plan teaching, learning and assessment for college programmes across a range of levels using the appropriate college format to ensure effective learning.
• To deliver teaching and learning to at least a consistently good or outstanding standard to achieve high success rates.
• To assess accurately learners’ work both formatively and summatively against appropriate awarding body criteria to ensure learners achieve their qualifications.
• To comply with all college quality assurance procedures as prescribed by the Deputy Principal to ensure the achievement of all internal and external audits.
• To liaise with external agencies, including validating bodies, employers and placement providers.
• Thoroughly prepare suitable teaching, learning and assessment materials for a range of courses/classes and make use of a variety and appropriate learning and teaching methods.
• Have available an up-to-date syllabus and scheme of work (showing methods of delivery and embedded cross-cutting themes) for each course/class taught.

Successful applicants should have

• A Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
• Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one
• Relevant practical industry experience in operating lathes, milling machines, and CNC machining equipment
• A Maths qualification equivalent to Level 3 would be desirable
• An Assessors award would also be desirable
