Midlands Arts Centre’s Learning and Participation programme is extensive with over 150 term courses and a wide selection of short courses for children, young people, and adults. Our courses cover many subjects, from visual arts and crafts to digital arts, performance, music, and wellbeing.

We are urgently looking for a new Artist Tutor to deliver 10 weeks of dance tuition on two 6 week courses- Tap Dance Beginners (DA04) and Tap Dance Improvers (DA10) as part of MAC’s Learning & Participation programme. The courses take place on Tuesday evenings, from Tuesday 6th October.

Principle Purpose of Post

To deliver the tuition of two Dance courses for adults for 10 weeks, as part of MAC’s Learning & Participation programme, starting on Tuesday 6th October. We would ideally like the chosen candidate to be available to shadow the current tutor on Tuesday 29th September.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about dance and informal learning experiences and who enjoys teaching others.

You are required to be reliable, personable, and flexible, to cater for each student’s personal goals and aims.

The successful candidate will be part of a large team of Artist Tutors who help us deliver a vibrant and dynamic programme of informal learning.

Overall Job Purpose

This is a fixed term position. We are looking for someone to deliver both dance courses for Autumn Term 2026 only.

The courses are outlined below:

Tap Dance Beginners (DA04)

  • Tuesday 6.00-7.00pm
  • Beginners

Additional responsibilities as follows:

  • You will need to devise clear a course structure to enable progression of learning, and the ability to adapt to each participant’s needs.
  • Ensuring the course is delivered as per the course description.
  • Teaching students to the agreed level for the course (eg, beginner/ improver/advanced).
  • Continuous reflection and evaluation on the course, and quality of delivery.
  • Work within MAC’s policies with specific attention to Safeguarding and Health & Safety.

Note

  • These courses are on Tuesdays throughout the Autumn Term at the times listed. You would be taking over this class and delivering it as advertised.
  • We are looking for someone to take over the existing class starting on Tuesday 6th October.
  • We would ideally like the successful candidate to shadow the class on Tuesday 29th September.
  • We would expect the successful candidate to attend an induction session at MAC before their first taught class.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Be able to provide a stimulating learning experience that enables participants to achieve their creative potential.
  • Educated/experienced to a suitable level in tap.
  • Proven ability to communicate well with a range of people using varied communication methods.
  • A passion and commitment to the Arts.
  • A commitment to further your skills and knowledge in participatory arts, including attending meetings, participating in training, and reflecting on your practice.
  • An understanding of and commitment to MAC’s key objectives.
  • An understanding of the practical application of MAC’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in delivering dance courses and workshops.
  • Experience of working with adults with additional needs and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Knowledge of other art forms which may help us expand our creative learning offer at MAC.
