We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering manufacturer based in East Kilbride. The business designs and manufactures specialist heavy industrial equipment supplied globally and has built a strong reputation for quality, innovation and long-term staff retention.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to add an experienced Horizontal Borer Machine Operator to their machine & fabrication workshop.
The Role:
This position will focus on the setup and operation of conventional (manual) horizontal boring machines within a busy engineering workshop environment. This is a hands-on machining role working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
Main duties include:
- Setting and operating a conventional horizontal boring machine
- Operating other manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines and drills
- Working from detailed engineering drawings
- Producing precision components to tight tolerances
- Inspecting and measuring your own work
- Maintaining high housekeeping and safety standards
- Contributing to continuous improvement within the workshop
Requirements:
To be considered, you must have:
- Previous experience operating manual / conventional machine tools
- Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings
- Experience working to tight tolerances
- Strong understanding of safe working practices in a machine shop
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience operating a Kerns Richard SH75 or similar horizontal borer
- Overhead crane experience
- Counterbalance forklift licence
This role is focused on conventional/manual machining. CNC-only experience is unlikely to be suitable unless you also have strong manual machining experience.
