Working Pattern: 40 hours per week on a rotating 24/7 shift pattern, including nights

The Opportunity

Our client is a leading operator of critical industrial infrastructure and process facilities across the UK. They are seeking an experienced Shift Team Leader to join their operations team, taking responsibility for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of a highly regulated process plant. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operations professional to join a well-invested business where safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement are at the heart of the organisation.

Working closely with engineering, maintenance and site leadership teams, you will lead shift operations, drive plant performance, ensure regulatory compliance and support the delivery of key operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations & Plant Performance
    • Lead and supervise a multi-disciplined shift operations team.
    • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the facility, ensuring safe and efficient plant performance.
    • Maximise plant availability, throughput and operational reliability.
    • Monitor plant conditions and respond effectively to operational issues.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency and performance.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across the site.
    • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental procedures and standards.
    • Operate within Safe Systems of Work and permit-to-work procedures.
    • Supervise contractors and permit-controlled activities.
    • Support emergency response activities and site drills.
  • Incident Management & Continuous Improvement
    • Lead investigations into incidents, accidents and near misses.
    • Carry out root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
    • Maintain accurate operational and compliance records.
    • Drive improvements in plant performance, safety and operational effectiveness.
  • Leadership & Communication
    • Deliver effective shift handovers and team briefings.
    • Coach, mentor and develop operational personnel.
    • Build strong working relationships across operations, maintenance and management functions.
    • Ensure contractors and visitors comply with site safety procedures and standards.

Candidate Requirements

  • Essential
    • Previous supervisory or management experience within an industrial, engineering or operational environment.
    • Experience operating within Safe Systems of Work and permit-to-work systems.
    • Strong communication, leadership and decision-making skills.
    • Engineering qualification (ONC, HNC or equivalent).
  • Desirable
    • IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification.
    • Senior Authorised Person (SAP) or Authorised Person experience.
    • Management or leadership qualification.
    • Experience gained within sectors such as Waste, Power Generation, Energy from Waste, Utilities, Chemical Processing, Process Manufacturing, Marine Engineering, Industrial Processing or other highly regulated operational environments.
  • Technical Knowledge
    • Candidates should demonstrate experience or exposure to some of the following:
      • Steam systems and associated plant equipment
      • Boilers and combustion processes
      • Electrical generation or industrial utilities
      • Process operations and control systems
      • Environmental compliance and monitoring systems
      • Permit-to-work systems
      • Contractor management
      • Operational risk management
