Business Development Manager – Fasteners, Fixings & Industrial Supply

OEM & Manufacturing | Yorkshire / North West / North Midlands

Are you an experienced Business Development Manager with a background in fasteners, fixings, industrial consumables or technical products supplied into OEM and manufacturing environments?

Do you enjoy generating your own leads, cold prospecting, opening new accounts and developing business from the ground up?

We're recruiting for a global industrial distribution and supply‑chain solutions business looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to develop new manufacturing and OEM customers across the North of England.

This is a genuine new‑business‑focused position, suited to someone who enjoys getting out into the market, identifying opportunities and winning new customers rather than primarily managing an established account portfolio.

The Opportunity

Working within the OEM & Safety division, you'll be responsible for developing business across Yorkshire, the North West and North Midlands.

The position is home‑based with approximately 70% field travel and a strong focus on new customer acquisition.

  • 70% new business development: Proactively identifying, approaching and securing new manufacturing and OEM customers.
  • 30% strategic account development: Growing selected customer relationships and identifying additional supply opportunities.
  • Developing opportunities across fasteners, fixings, PPE, tools, engineering consumables and other industrial products.
  • Selling value‑added supply‑chain solutions including Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), Kanban systems, industrial vending, managed stock and integrated supply.
  • Working directly with Procurement, Engineering, Production, Operations and Supply Chain decision‑makers.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve stock availability, reduce procurement costs and consolidate suppliers.
  • Managing the full sales process, from initial prospecting and customer visits through to proposals, negotiations and contract wins.

What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have:

  • A strong background selling fasteners, fixings or closely related industrial consumables, ideally into OEMs, manufacturers or engineering businesses.
  • Proven new‑business hunting experience, including cold calling, self‑generating leads, developing territories and winning completely new customers.
  • A track record of securing new accounts and generating measurable new‑business revenue.
  • Experience selling technical or industrial products to manufacturing, production, engineering or procurement teams.
  • An understanding of value‑added supply solutions such as VMI, Kanban, industrial vending, managed inventory or stock replenishment.
  • The ability to sell commercially and consultatively, focusing on customer requirements, efficiency and total cost of ownership rather than simply competing on product price.
  • Confidence managing a field‑based territory and travelling extensively across northern England.

Experience with industrial distributors, fastener specialists, engineering supply businesses or technical consumables providers would be particularly relevant.

This role would suit someone who genuinely enjoys winning new customers and wants to spend the majority of their time developing new business.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • Performance‑related bonus
  • Company car or car allowance
  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Fully expensed business travel
  • Home‑based position with extensive customer‑facing activity
  • Long‑term career opportunities within a global organisation

If you have a strong industrial sales background, understand fasteners, fixings or manufacturing supply, and enjoy the challenge of winning new business, we'd be keen to hear from you.
