Design Engineer

We are a leading temporary works specialist and at the forefront of our industry for over 60 years, with a reputation built on engineering and service excellence. This enables us to deliver the right temporary works solution for our customers, whatever the scale or complexity of the project. Our customers include civil engineering and construction contractors, asset owners, and consulting engineering firms through to small builders.

Due to continued growth, we are currently looking for a design engineer to join our engineering team. Reporting to a Design Team Leader, you will be responsible for producing temporary works designs for excavation support, propping, formwork and falsework.

The role would suit an engineer with a few years post graduate experience with demonstratable technical experience in structures or geotechnical design and a sound understanding of temporary works. At Mabey Hire, the floor is yours to fulfil your potential and take us forward.

You will:

  • Experience of designing temporary works for groundworks and/or building refurbishment propping (e.g geotechnical design of sheet pile cofferdams and/or propping and needling)
  • Prepare temporary works designs for groundworks and eventually other product schemes.
  • Checking designs and drawing in accordance with BS5975:2019
  • Attend client meetings and carry out site visits.
  • Review design briefs provided by the sales team through Launchpad and provide feedback if more information is required.
  • Managing your own workload § Contribute to continuous improvement projects as agreed by the Engineering Director.

You will have:

  • A HND or degree in civil/structural engineering
  • At least 3 years experience designing temporary works
  • The ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Experience of designing Formwork & Falsework
  • Good understanding of CDM 2015
  • Experience utilising AutoCAD 2D and/or REVIT

We would also love it if you have:

  • Experience of designing Formwork
  • Experience of checking Groundworks
  • Experience working for a supplier or in a commercial environment
  • Some experience working on site
