MAA Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting for a Maintenance Operative/Handyman on behalf of our client, based in Motherwell. Our client is a well-established manufacturing business with a strong reputation for quality and excellence within their industry. They are looking for a practical, reliable and hands-on individual to join their team in a varied role covering general maintenance, installation, joinery and site improvements. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a handyman, maintenance or practical trades background who enjoys working on a variety of tasks and takes pride in finding practical solutions to problems.

Role:

  • Carrying out general maintenance and repair work across the site
  • Undertaking practical handyman duties and general building maintenance
  • Carrying out basic joinery work and repairs
  • Building and assembling desks, furniture, fixtures and equipment
  • Installing and mounting equipment, fixtures and fittings, including TVs and other workplace equipment
  • Running, routing and securing cabling around the site as required
  • Using hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Assisting with modifications, repairs and improvements to buildings and facilities
  • Supporting general site maintenance and improvement projects
  • Responding to general maintenance issues and carrying out repairs as required
  • Assisting with recycling and waste management activities where required
  • Operating a forklift truck where authorised
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and ensuring work areas are clean, safe and organised
  • Working in accordance with company Health & Safety procedures
  • Working closely with colleagues across the business and supporting other Facilities activities as required

This is a permanent, full-time position offering a varied, hands-on role with the opportunity to become an important part of the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the site.

Hours: Monday to Thursday 6:30am to 3:30pm, Friday 6:30am to 12:30pm

Pay: £29,640 per annum

Skills:

  • Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, facilities or similar practical role
  • Strong practical skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Good general joinery and DIY skills
  • Confident using a range of hand and power tools
  • Experience building, assembling or installing fixtures, furniture or equipment
  • Comfortable carrying out general repairs and maintenance
  • Able to run and secure cabling neatly and safely
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Good attention to detail and pride in completing work to a high standard
  • Reliable, flexible and willing to undertake a variety of tasks
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Valid FLT licence

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Basic MIG welding and fabrication experience
  • Experience with building or facilities maintenance
  • Additional joinery, fabrication or mechanical skills
  • Experience carrying out site improvement or installation projects

Working Conditions:

Hands-on role based within a manufacturing facility in Motherwell. The role will involve a wide variety of practical tasks, including general maintenance, joinery, installation, cabling and site improvements. The successful candidate will need to be practical, reliable and adaptable, with the ability to look at a problem and work out a sensible solution. The role will involve manual work, lifting and carrying and working both indoors and outdoors when required.
