Our client, a specialist engineering business delivering bespoke automation and control system solutions across industrial, manufacturing and marine sectors, is looking for an experienced Controls & Automation Engineer (PLC/SCADA) to join their team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven automation professional to play a key role in the design, development, testing and commissioning of advanced control systems, working on complex, one-off projects from concept through to completion.
The Nitty Gritty:
- Designing and developing PLC and SCADA control systems for bespoke engineering projects.
- Producing functional design specifications and supporting project documentation.
- Programming PLC systems to meet customer and project requirements.
- Developing SCADA applications and operator interfaces.
- Designing and implementing distributed network architectures for industrial and marine installations.
- Selecting PLC hardware and field devices in line with project specifications.
- Working alongside Mechanical Design, Production, Project Management and Quality teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Supporting design reviews, technical meetings and customer discussions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assisting with bid proposals, technical support and customer liaison activities.
- Testing and commissioning systems both in-house and at customer sites, including UK and international travel when required.
- Providing technical support for service engineers and resolving customer queries.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the design and engineering function.
Finer Details:
- Permanent, full-time position with a well-established engineering company.
- Opportunity to work on complex, bespoke automation projects from design through to commissioning.
- Suitable for an experienced Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer or PLC/SCADA Engineer.
- Proven experience programming Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE or similar PLC platforms is essential.
- Previous experience with SCADA packages such as Wonderware, Cimplicity, Genesis or equivalent is desirable.
- Knowledge of distributed network design and implementation is highly advantageous.
- HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline preferred.
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas for commissioning and customer support activities.
Hours: 37 hours per week. Monday to Thursday: 08:00-16:45. Friday: 08:00-12:00. Flexibility required to work additional hours when operationally necessary.
Pay & Benefits: Salary from £55,000-£65,000 DOE. 33 days annual leave including statutory holidays. Stakeholder pension scheme available.
