We are looking for a Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) Consultant to play a key role in delivering compliant, safe, and well-coordinated design solutions across a diverse project portfolio. This is a senior, client-facing position where you will lead on Building Regulations compliance during the design phase, working closely with clients, designers, and regulators. You will act as a trusted advisor, helping clients navigate the requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022 while managing design risk and driving high-quality outcomes. Alongside project delivery, you will contribute to the growth of our BRPD service offering and help position us as a leading compliance partner in the market.
What you'll be responsible for:
- Leading Building Regulations compliance
- Plan, manage, and coordinate compliance throughout the design phase
- Develop and maintain clear compliance strategies and trackers
- Review design information to ensure alignment with functional requirements
- Identify and manage compliance risks, advising on practical solutions
- Ensure design changes are assessed, recorded, and communicated
Coordinating stakeholders:
- Work closely with designers to ensure duties are understood and fulfilled
- Coordinate duty holders and clarify responsibilities across the project team
- Liaise with Building Control Bodies and Registered Building Inspectors
- Support clients in meeting their statutory obligations
Client leadership:
- Build strong, long-term client relationships
- Act as a trusted advisor on compliance and design risk
- Lead and contribute to key project and design team meetings
- Provide clear, commercially aware guidance aligned to project objectives
Supporting business growth:
- Identify opportunities to expand BRPD and wider compliance services
- Contribute to bids, proposals, and client presentations
- Support the development of tools, processes, and service offerings
- Represent the business at industry events and networking opportunities
Team contribution:
- Mentor and support junior team members
- Review technical outputs to ensure quality and consistency
- Contribute to best practice, templates, and internal processes
What we're looking for:
- Degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Building Surveying, Engineering, or similar
- Membership of a relevant professional body (RIBA, CIAT, CIOB, CABE or equivalent)
- Demonstrable competence aligned with PAS 8671 (or working towards)
- Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and Building Regulations
- Experience delivering Building Regulations compliance across multiple project types
- Confident coordinating design teams and managing compliance through design stages
- Experience engaging with Building Control Bodies or Registered Building Inspectors
- Ability to interpret complex technical design information and communicate clearly
