Hybrid in Brighton, United Kingdom.
About the Role
As the first dedicated design hire, you will transform a century-old membership service into a vibrant digital community. Your primary focus will be designing the connective tissue of discovery and identity that bridges the platform with its partners. By establishing foundational design systems and information architecture, you will ensure the product is accessible and engaging for a multi-generational membership base.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the member journey end-to-end across mobile and web platforms from onboarding to community spaces.
- Design the critical handoff and return moments between the Boundless platform and external partner surfaces.
- Restructure the information architecture to improve discovery for community, events, benefits, and savings.
- Lead moderated research and qualitative testing to provide evidence for design decisions before full instrumentation is available.
- Establish a lightweight pattern set and component library for engineering to ensure design foundations outlast the first hire.
- Shape the overarching product vision and strategy by informing direction rather than just applying visual polish.
- Design AI-supported experiences that maintain legibility, trust, and clear fallback mechanisms for members.
- Work at an engineering pace by prototyping and iterating in Figma and AI-native build tools.
Requirements
- Must have at least five years of experience in product design across both UX and UI disciplines.
- Demonstrate substantial in-house experience taking consumer products from ambiguity to shipped, accessible experiences.
- Provide a portfolio showing clear reasoning behind design decisions and their resulting impact on B2C outcomes.
- Possess expert-level proficiency in Figma and a habit of adopting AI-native design and build tools.
- Show confidence in designing to recognized accessibility standards for a diverse, multi-generational user base.
- Ability to operate effectively as a solo design function without direct design management oversight.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a senior-level individual contributor who thrives as a design function of one and possesses a deep background in B2C consumer products. They should be a craft-focused designer who balances high-fidelity UI skills with rigorous UX reasoning and accessibility standards. This person is likely an early adopter of AI tools and feels comfortable navigating ambiguity to build foundational design systems from scratch.
