M4 recruitment are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing company based in Swindon, seeking an experienced and detail-focused Wire Harness Technician to join their team. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on technician to step into a stable and supportive environment with a focus on quality, precision, and continuous improvement.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling, testing, and maintaining cable harnesses used in electronic systems. This role suits someone who is technically skilled, reliable, and takes pride in producing high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assembly
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings
- Cut, strip, crimp, and solder wires to assemble cable harnesses to exact specifications
- Install connectors, lugs, and protective coverings as required
- Testing & Quality Control
- Conduct continuity and electrical tests using multimeters and other test equipment
- Inspect completed harnesses for compliance with quality standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve any assembly issues
- Documentation
- Keep accurate records of materials used, processes followed, and test outcomes
- Provide feedback on design and process improvements
- Maintenance & Safety
- Perform routine maintenance on tools and machinery
- Follow company safety policies, wear appropriate PPE, and maintain a clean workspace
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience in cable or wire harness assembly
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Proficient in soldering, crimping, and using relevant hand tools
- Familiarity with multimeters and continuity testers
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of IPC620, JSTD, and COPs standards
- Experience with quality inspection processes
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
- Able to work both independently and within a team
- Organised with good record-keeping skills
- Background in automotive, aerospace, or telecoms industries is advantageous
