A unique opportunity has arisen for a Head of Legal to join a well-established and market leading Asset Based Lending provider based from their Sussex head office.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing timely and commercial legal advice and transactional support in relation to The Company’s products and services, whether via documentation or other means, for both new and existing business;
  • Drafting and preparing in-house finance documents, amendments, waivers, reservation of rights letters, and reviewing legal documentation (including confidentiality and other commercial agreements);
  • Reviewing and agreeing non-core documentation including non-disclosure agreements, engagement letters, and fee estimates;
  • Ownership of The Company’s legal documentation suite;
  • Control document execution processes within company guidelines;
  • Play an active role in the senior management team;
  • Undertake legal reviews across the portfolio, to identify potential risks and inconsistencies;
  • Opining on legal issues within credit proposal and proposed term sheet for both new and existing clients;
  • Managing relationships with legal panel firms; conducting legal research; ensuring compliance with laws and regulations; maintaining precedent legal documentation; understanding the regulatory and legal climate and understanding of risk paradigm; being able to keep abreast of changes in law and regulation; identifying, managing and mitigating legal risk issues.

Qualifications:

  • Strong legal experience in either a regional or City law firm; or in-house experience in an Asset Based Lending focused business or similar financial institution.
  • Law degree (or equivalent qualification).
  • Qualified to work as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales (or another recognised jurisdiction to be determined by the General Counsel from time to time), with a valid current practicing certificate being held.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and gain the trust of colleagues, advisers and customers;
  • Ability to work as an integral part of a front-line deal team;
  • Ability to lead a team, and support the development of junior colleagues;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts and conclusions into intelligible commercial advice;
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a varied caseload and achieve deadlines;
  • Good all-round financial services knowledge;
  • Adaptable self-starter; proactive and can-do approach to work;
  • Reasonable IT knowledge – proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Particular knowledge in using Excel for data analysis and comparisons will be advantageous;
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure;
  • Strong team working skills;
  • Enthusiastic and confident.
