We are seeking a skilled or semi-skilled dedicated HGV Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and trailers. This role requires a strong mechanical background, proficiency with electrical systems, and the ability to work with a variety of hand and power tools. Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs and trailers
- Diagnose faults using schematics and electrical diagrams
- Use hand tools and power tools to replace parts, repair components, and carry out modifications
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance activities
- Assist with equipment upgrades and modifications as required
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repairs and maintenance needs
- Assist in the training of junior team members when necessary
- Carry out heavy lifting tasks safely as part of routine maintenance procedures
Requirements
- Proven experience as an HGV mechanic or in a similar heavy vehicle repair role
- Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in electrical systems and schematics interpretation
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
- Knowledge of vehicle assembly, equipment repair, and maintenance procedures
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Good organisational skills for record keeping and reporting tasks
- Customer service orientation with effective communication skills
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in mechanical or electrical engineering are desirable but not essential
