An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Production Planner / Buyer to join a well-established manufacturing business supplying a diverse customer base across a specialist engineering sector.
This is a varied role combining both production planning and purchasing responsibilities, where you'll play a key part in ensuring materials are available to meet customer demand while maintaining efficient production schedules and optimal inventory levels.
Working closely with Production, Logistics, Engineering and suppliers, you'll be responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of materials through the business, supporting on-time delivery and driving continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Day to day the role of Production Planner / Buyer will involve
- Creating and maintaining production plans across multiple manufacturing areas using SAP.
- Planning production to meet customer demand whilst maximising manufacturing efficiency.
- Purchasing raw materials, components and consumables in line with production requirements.
- Raising purchase orders and negotiating prices, lead times and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Managing stock levels in line with agreed inventory targets.
- Monitoring supplier performance and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
- Liaising with Production, Logistics and other internal departments to ensure material availability.
- Attending daily production meetings to review priorities and resolve supply issues.
- Supporting cost reduction, quality and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
- To be successful in the role of Production Planner / Buyer you will need:
- Previous experience within a Production Planning, Buying, Procurement or Supply Chain role within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience of using SAP (SAP Key User experience would be advantageous).
- Strong understanding of production planning and material scheduling.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Good negotiation and organisational abilities.
- The ability to work effectively within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
