Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of year-end statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
  • Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks.
  • Prepare and process sales and purchase invoices.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and ledger reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Support the preparation of management accounts for clients.
  • Maintain and reconcile petty cash records.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end financial procedures.

Payroll Duties

  • Process weekly, fortnightly, or monthly payrolls for multiple clients.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records.
  • Issue payslips and payroll reports to clients and employees.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and statutory payroll requirements.
  • Process RTI submissions, pensions contributions, and payroll deductions.
  • Respond to payroll queries from clients and staff.

Administrative & Client Support

  • Liaise with clients regarding financial or payroll queries.
  • Maintain organised client files and financial records.
  • Assist senior accountants with ad-hoc accounting and administrative tasks.
  • Ensure work is completed accurately and within deadlines.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in accounts, bookkeeping, or payroll (practice experience desirable).
  • Knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and client service skills.
  • Experience of working in practice.

Qualifications (Typical)

  • AAT qualified or studying AAT/ACCA/ACA, or qualified by experience.
  • GCSEs including Maths and English.

Salary will be dependant on experience. The role will be at our office on Whitchurch Road. Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, 37.5 hours.
