MRN’s Housing Disrepair department is looking for candidates at a graduate level to join their expanding paying party costs team. This is an exceptional entry-level opportunity for a motivated law graduate looking to build a specialised career in Costs Law. Working directly alongside senior costs professionals and fee earners, you will learn the intricacies of legal billing specifically within the high-volume field of housing disrepair. The role allows for hybrid working, based out of MRN’s new office in Prestwich, Manchester.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse case files, Schedules and Bills of Costs to identify challengeable profit costs and disbursements.
  • Assist with the preparation of letters of advice to clients and Points of Dispute.
  • Negotiate party-and-party costs settlements with opposing solicitors and costs representatives.
  • Conduct legal research into shifting costs landscape, Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), and relevant case law.
  • Maintain accurate data tracking on our Case Management System (CMS).

What We Are Looking For

  • Law Graduate or MCILEX level qualifications
  • Knowledge: A basic understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and/or standard costs principles. Experience or a strong interest in Housing Disrepair or personal injury protocols is highly advantageous.
  • Skills: Strong numerical literacy and a sharp eye for detail
  • Communication: Confident verbal and written communication style for negotiating settlements and explaining complex figures.
  • Attitude: A proactive, highly organised individual who thrives under target-driven deadlines.
