The role of Transport Manager:
- Managing all transport operations across the fleet to ensure high levels of service and compliance
- Leading, motivating and developing a team of drivers across multiple locations
- Driving route optimisation initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance delivery performance
- Working with existing route planning software whilst identifying opportunities for further improvement
- Overseeing fleet maintenance, servicing schedules, inspections and vehicle availability
- Ensuring compliance with Operator Licence requirements and all relevant transport legislation
- Monitoring and reporting on transport KPIs including cost, utilisation, on-time delivery and driver performance
- Managing transport-related incidents, escalations and operational challenges
- Developing and implementing a structured driver training and onboarding programme
- Reducing driver turnover through effective engagement, coaching and performance management
- Supporting future fleet growth and operational scalability
The ideal Transport Manager:
- Previous experience in a Transport Manager role
- A valid Transport Manager CPC qualification (or recently obtained and ready to be named on an Operator Licence)
- Experience managing a multi-drop distribution operation
- Strong knowledge of fleet management, vehicle compliance and transport legislation
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyse and report on key operational KPIs
- Proven experience leading and developing driver teams
- A proactive, hands-on management style with a continuous improvement mindset
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- Experienced Excel user and familiar with reporting
- Desirable: FMCG, food distribution or temperature-controlled logistics experience
