MLK Education Search are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic School Business Leader to join this all-through, community academy in the heart of north east London.
As a smaller than average all-through school, there is a true feeling of collaboration between Primary and Secondary phases, opening the successful applicant to professionally develop in a different stage of education. They are also part of one of the largest Multi Academy Trusts in the South, and the opportunity will be there to collaborate with the Executive Team, other schools in the Trust, and across the larger Local Authority network, exposing your skills and capabilities to a large audience.
The role has arisen to cover a maternity leave, and the ideal would be to have the right person in place before the Christmas break to ensure a significant handover and settling in period ahead of the new year.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Finance Manager or Business Leader who is able to hit the ground running, building a strong rapport with both School and Trust leaders to ensure that the school’s existing financial strategy is carried out while maintaining high standards of business practice across the Finance and HR functions of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate information and consult with the Senior Team and Governors to prepare a realistic and balanced budget for school activity.
- Submit the proposed budget to the Head Teacher and Governors for approval and assist the overall financial planning process.
- Discuss, negotiate, and agree the final budget.
- Use the agreed budget to actively monitor and control performance to achieve value for money.
- Identify and inform the Head Teacher and Governors of the causes of significant variance and take prompt corrective action.
- Propose revisions to the budget if necessary, in response to significant or unforeseen developments.
- Consult with the Trust and other parties to introduce new technology or improve existing technology for different purposes.
- Ensure that the school has a strategy for using technology aligned to the overall vision and plans for the school, ensuring value for money.
- Communicate the strategy and relevant policies, including Data Protection for use of technology across the school.
- Manage the payroll services for all school staff, including the management of pension schemes and associated services.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the HR manager, providing permanent accountability on all elements of supervision, coordination, and management.
Requirements:
- A degree or other relevant qualification – ideally in accountancy, business management, or a related discipline.
- A school business management qualification or equivalent.
- Successful leadership and management experience in a school or college.
- Involvement in school self-evaluation and improvement planning.
- Line management experience.
- Contributing to staff development.
