At M Group Highways, we’re supporting the safe transportation and movement of people across the UK. You’ll be joining our Highways maintenance team, as the UK’s number one highway maintenance contractor, our teams use the latest innovations to create effective solutions. We offer a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes.
What will you be doing?
- You’ll line-manage Operatives, setting clear performance objectives for your team and manage a subcontracted service activity.
- Delivering regular TBTs and safety briefings ensuring good communication exists between all parties.
- You’ll take ownership for safety, health, environmental and quality compliance for your team and service activity.
- Promote excellent Safety standards and ensure Hazards, Near Misses and Incidents are reported and reviewed.
- Supporting business initiatives such as the Service Strike Avoidance campaign and the company behavioural safety programme.
- You’ll be part of the standby rota for Winter Maintenance Service and/or Emergency response (OOHs) service.
- Supporting the business in the delivery of these services.
- We’ll require you to support contract financial objectives to achieve income and gross margin targets.
- You’ll carry out effective pre-works planning, on-site supervision, and value capture.
- You’ll work with the wider team to ensure works are correctly planned, communicated, materials ordered and resources available to deliver first time and avoid conflicting priorities.
- Monitoring performance and output ensuring benchmark standards are met and inspection test plans followed.
- You’ll ensure all Operatives working on the network are inducted and working to company standards.
- Work collaboratively with our client, HCC, to ensure works is programmed and delivered to meet their needs and site challenges are overcome through discussion and the sharing of good practice.
- We’ll ask you to be involved in mentoring apprentices under our apprenticeship scheme.
- We’ll need you to be flexible in all types of work including covering other supervisors and manager as required.
- Providing support across the subcontracted services and Depot delivery areas.
What you’ll bring
- Good working knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation applicable to our industry.
- Commercially astute and able to ensure value is captured, costs controlled and seek efficiencies without compromising quality.
- Experience within the highway maintenance industry essential and CSCS, NRSWA and SSSTS.
- Effective communicator and exhibit role model behaviours helping individuals and teams achieve their best.
- Excellent customer relationship skills and the ability to work with the client to improve efficiency.
- Good general IT skills are essential, and ideally, you’ll be proficient in Office 365 applications.
- The ability to remain flexible in your approach to the role whilst embracing change and helping to drive that change through the wider teams and through into the delivery.
