Where will you be working?
As an organisation, there is little we don’t do and plenty to get involved in. Our Group Support roles are vital in making sure we can help over 11,000 people deliver essential infrastructure seamlessly across water, energy, transport and telecom.
What will you be doing?
You’ll lead the commercial governance and assurance of strategic bids and tenders across M Group, helping to ensure opportunities are delivered in line with our business goals, risk appetite and profitability targets. Working closely with divisional teams, you’ll provide expert guidance on pricing, commercial strategy, risk management and tender governance, supporting high-value opportunities from initial identification through to contract award. You’ll review commercial proposals, provide market and pricing insight, and help maximise value and margin across our work-winning activities. You’ll also play a key role in developing best practice, delivering training, and embedding robust commercial controls across the Group. Working collaboratively with legal, procurement, project and operational teams, you’ll help secure favourable contract outcomes, manage commercial risk and identify opportunities for innovation and growth. What you’ll bring:
- Education & Experience: Experience of work winning tender and governance development processes and procedures across a Tier 1 UK Contractor. Experience of working with various contract types and contracting arrangements (i.e. term maintenance and renewal frameworks, enterprise arrangements, capital delivery projects, etc.). Bachelors degree in quantity surveying, commercial management, or a related discipline. (Desirable) Relevant professional certifications such as RICS or CICES (Desirable). 10+ years of experience in commercial management within a relevant industry.
- Skills & Competencies: Excellent understanding of construction contracts, project delivery and commercial management systems and processes. Proficiency in capturing and measuring core pricing metrics from tender through contract delivery to manage performance and provide feedback to tender and estimating teams. Contract knowledge across various standard forms and bespoke construction contracts with knowledge and experience of dealing with identification and mitigation plans for onerous terms. Experience of commercial management across multiple contracting arrangements (capital delivery projects, alliancing, repair & maintenance frameworks). Strong negotiations, communication and relationship-building skills. Proficiency in commercial management software, contract management tools, and financial systems. Proficiency in identifying and mitigating risks / maximising opportunities associated with construction projects.
