Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.

Reporting to the Programme Director, you will be the delivery lead on all of our rail bids under the bid manager, responsible for estimating the prelims and delivery costs and work with construction teams and planners to turn a tender into a plan we can actually build. You'll be writing the delivery side of our bid responses: the methodology, how we'll stage the works, access and possession strategy, resourcing, risk, the prelims and cost build-up that sit behind it all. You'll challenge engineering and planning where something won't work on the ground, and you'll own the handover to the project team when we win, so they start with a bid they recognise rather than one they have to unpick.

What you’ll do:

  • Control and management of the estimating process at bid, project or scheme level
  • Challenging costs estimates produced by the SME’s in Delivery and Engineering
  • Providing detailed and regular project reviews, reports and KPI’s for both telent and client review.
  • Review project specifications, drawings and other documentation to aid preparation of detailed cost estimates.
  • Prepare and present detailed cost breakdowns and pricing proposals at cost reviews
  • The financial performance and reporting of all projects to both Telent and Customer stakeholders
  • Planning and ensuring the correct resource is booked and available to deliver the project (internal and external).
  • Subcontract selection and management.
  • Ensuring material orders are placed on time and within the agreed budget
  • Supporting the bid team as required for tenders and responses.

Who you are:

You'll have run telecoms or rail systems projects as an Estimating Manager/Senior Project Manager, so you know what delivery really looks like on the railway. You'll understand construction well enough to know what a realistic shift looks like and where the hidden costs sit. You'll be comfortable building and defending an estimate, and you'll be able to write clearly and persuasively for a client evaluator. You'll need real depth in delivery and a genuine appetite to grow the rest.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience cost estimating experience
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
  • Excellent knowledge of P & L accounts
  • Good working knowledge of MSP and Microsoft suite of tools

What we offer:

At Telent, we’re committed to creating an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued, supported, and able to thrive. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and encourage diverse perspectives across our teams.

The additional benefits with this role:

  • Car Allowance
  • Private Medical
  • 34 days holiday, including public holidays, plus the option to buy or sell days annually
  • Company pension scheme
  • A range of family friendly policies
  • Occupational health support and wellbeing Portal
  • Discounts on Cinema, Restaurants and Shopping with Telent Reward scheme.

We are guided by our values and behaviours:

  • Be Inclusive
  • Take Responsibility
