Where will you be working?

M Group Highways is supporting the safe transportation and movement of people across the UK. You’ll be joining our Highways maintenance team, as the UK’s number one highway maintenance contractor, our teams use the latest innovations to create effective solutions. We offer a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes.

As part of our Operational delivery team, you will be responsible for the maintenance of the highways network in Wiltshire. You will work with the client, the supply chain and our own management team, to plan and deliver highway maintenance works, safely, on time and within budget, whilst offering a high-quality service to our customers. You will manage the direct operational teams and supply chain and keep the depot fit for purpose. The successful candidate will report to the Contract Manager.

What will you be doing?

  • You’ll supervise operatives and supply chain completing highways maintenance activities, focused on minor civils, signs installation and lining works.
  • You’ll be planning and programming the works, managing plant and material ordering and doing the online road space bookings.
  • Produce work packs including Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental information such as CPPs, RAs, and Permits.
  • Site management of the direct and supply chain teams, managing performance and safety & environmental compliance.
  • Control site safety, quality and environment policies and processes, presenting inductions and on-site briefings and carrying out inspections.
  • Use the contract works management system.
  • Manage budget forecasting, cost capture and cost control, change management, raising EWs and documenting change.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the depot, ensuring it is clean, tidy, safe, environmentally compliant, and safe offloading.
  • Out of hours Winter Maintenance and Emergency Call Out Supervisory responsibilities.

What you’ll bring:

  • CSCS / CPCS essential
  • SSSTS desired
  • Safety and Environmental qualifications desired
  • Experience and ability to manage people, drive, coach, support, challenge and undertake difficult conversations.
  • Team player with good collaborative working skills, able to engage, guide and influence others, including M Group colleagues, customers and suppliers.
  • Client focused approach.
  • Good communication skills: verbal, presentations and reports.
  • Basic skills in the use of computer software packages such as Word, Excel and works management systems; ability to manage data and produce reports.
  • Self-motivated, able to manage own workload, prioritise and set own timetable.
  • Knowledge and experience in the delivery of highways works.
  • Knowledge and commitment to industry safety and environmental procedures, legislation and practice.
  • Basic commercial knowledge and understanding.
