Where will you be working? At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives. We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation. This role will be within our Substation & Renewables Connections team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.

What will you be doing? We're recruiting for a Material Verification Engineer to join our Design team in Nottingham. You'll support the quality, compliance and delivery of materials used on high-voltage overhead line construction projects. In this role, you’ll carry out quality inspections of conductors, OPGW, earthwire, insulators and associated fittings, ensuring all supplied materials meet the required standards before installation. This role involves regular engagement with manufacturers, reviewing QA documentation, attending inspections, raising material requisitions and ensuring all client-required documentation is completed accurately and on time. It’s a key position that helps safeguard quality, reduce risk and ensure the successful delivery of major OHL projects.

  • Carry out quality inspections of conductors, OPGW, earthwire, insulators and associated fittings being supplied for installation to high voltage overhead line construction projects.
  • Issuing non-conformance reports to suppliers and managing corrective actions and timelines.
  • Provide technical support to the supply chain management (SCM) department as and when needed to establish and maintain suppliers and their information.
  • Add technical input to bill of materials for procurement.
  • Advise on Type Registration (TR), test and spare quantities of conductors, OPGW, earthwire, insulators and associated fittings for projects.
  • Advise Design, Bids, Operations and SCM departments on supplier material options to avoid costly and lengthy TR requirements where possible.
  • Raise and issue OHL material requisitions at the appropriate time for procurement for ordering of materials and updating BOM with status.
  • Add input into the MAPs (Manufacturing Quality Assurance Plans), for Client review.
  • Follow up with the SCM department the manufacturing progress of material orders.
  • Carry out material inspection at manufacturers premises and make sure the programme for inspection is adhered to for timely supply of materials.
  • Engage with suppliers on any TR requirements and progress with the Client and supplier as required.
  • Raise documentation according to Clients requirements.

What you’ll bring:

  • Have Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification / background.
  • To be able to read engineering drawings, both insulator string and wire clearance diagrams.
  • Relevant mechanical testing experience of conductors, insulators and fittings.
  • Able to travel abroad after initial suitable training.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline.
  • Ability to produce technical documentation including calculations, drawings and reports.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software and general IT tools.
  • Experience in design within infrastructure, utilities or construction environments.
  • Experience in site surveys, inspections or design assessments.
  • Ability to support development of junior colleagues.
  • Willingness to learn and retain many quirks of the industry to enjoy a long term career in the OHL industry.
