Where will you be working? At M Group Energy we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives. We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation. This role will be within our Transmission and Renewables team in Wales and South West England. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing? We’re looking for a Civil Resident Setting Out Engineer (R.E.) to join our Electrical Transmission team. You’ll help deliver key substation projects across the UK, working with big names like National Grid and SSE. Day-to-day, you’ll support the Civil Site Manager, making sure everything on site runs smoothly, safely, and on time. You’ll be hands-on with planning, design, and construction, helping keep things on track and up to standard.
To give you a bit more of an idea about the role, below are some of the role responsibilities:
- Set out civil works: RC foundations, drainage, ducting, earthworks, roads, fencing
- Support site and project managers in meeting key design and build milestones
- Review and advise on Temporary Works; assist TWC/TWS throughout project lifecycle
- Prepare handover documents, H&S files, and inspection plans
- Resolve on-site design issues and manage change control (TQs/RFIs)
- Coordinate as-built drawings and ensure timely client submission
- Attend design/coordination meetings and support tender planning
What you’ll bring:
- 3+ years experience in surveying/setting out
- Civil Engineering degree or equivalent
- Experience in electrical transmission/distribution preferred
- CSCS card and full UK driving licence required
- Familiar with NG Transmission Procedures and BS5975 Temporary Works
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Confident with Microsoft Office, databases, and CAD
- Good understanding of technical specifications and supplier requirements
