Where will you be working? At M Group Highways, we're supporting the safe transportation and movement of people across the UK. You'll be joining our Highways maintenance team, as the UK's number one highway maintenance contractor, our teams use the latest innovations to create effective solutions. We offer a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes.

You'll be working within our Plant & Fleet team, supporting workshop operations in Devon. This is a varied role where you'll work closely with Workshop Managers, Technicians, Suppliers and our Finance team to ensure the smooth running of workshop administration and financial processes. You'll play a key part in supporting the day-to-day operations of the workshop, helping to maintain accurate financial records, process invoices, manage supplier accounts and provide essential administrative support across the business.

What will you be doing? As an Accounts Assistant, you'll provide comprehensive administrative and accounting support to our workshop operation, ensuring financial processes are completed accurately and efficiently. Responsibilities include:

  • Process employee timesheets and accurately allocate hours to the correct jobs using internal systems.
  • Maintain records relating to leave, absence and sickness, ensuring employee data remains up to date.
  • Set up new employees on company systems and maintain personnel records.
  • Process supplier invoices and allocate costs to the appropriate jobs and accounts.
  • Prepare supplier payments and reconcile supplier statements, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Support the setup of new supplier accounts and liaise with Head Office regarding supplier orders.
  • Raise workshop jobs and maintain accurate records within internal systems.
  • Process workshop-related supplier charges and prepare customer invoices within agreed timescales.
  • Monitor work in progress (WIP), investigate queries and support the resolution of job costing and parts-related issues.
  • Scan, file and maintain workshop documentation, ensuring records are organised and audit-ready.
  • Produce reports for management, highlighting key information and supporting operational decision-making.
  • Provide general office and administrative support, including responding to enquiries and ordering supplies as required.

What you'll bring: Essential skills include previous experience in an accounts, purchase ledger or administration role, strong numerical skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy, experience processing invoices and reconciling supplier accounts, good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to work to deadlines and maintain accuracy in a busy environment.

Desirable skills include experience using Key2 or similar workshop management or accounting software, knowledge of workshop, fleet, engineering or transport environments, and understanding of purchase ledger processes and basic accounting principles.
