Where will you be working? At M Group Highways, we’re supporting the safe transportation and movement of people across the UK. We don’t just build roads and bridges - we’re building a better future, creating lasting social value that gives back to the communities in which we work. You’ll be joining our Highways maintenance team, as the UK’s number one highway maintenance contractor, our teams use the latest innovations to create effective solutions. We offer a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes.

What will you be doing? You'll diagnose vehicle faults and specify the correct method of repair and parts to be used within defined quality standards. Carry out vehicle inspections/servicing in accordance with the workshop schedule. Recording job times for the repair on the job card in line with current procedure. You'll ensure parts replaced under warranty are returned labelled and in a clean condition. All parts are to be booked using the correct procedure. We'll ask you to ensure good housekeeping practices, including general tidiness in the workshop and the return of all tools and equipment to their designated place. Carrying out routine vehicle examinations using handheld data capture devices if applicable, in accordance with SOPs and VOSA testing requirements. You'll attend road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries, and carry out vehicle road testing where necessary to determine specific vehicle defects or following remedial repair. You'll partake in the winter maintenance standby duty rota. In this role all vehicles must pass MOT / HGV tests first time, and any that don’t to be reported to the Workshops Manager immediately. Ensure the workshop stock is always managed correctly. Ensuring equipment is repaired to current legal standards as a minimum. Customers are to be dealt with, always, in a polite professional and courteous manner. All feedback is to be passed to the Workshops Manager.

What you’ll bring: Are you fully conversant with the overhaul and repair of vehicle systems, including engines, automatic/semi-automatic gearboxes, drive trains, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, cooling systems and basic auto electrics? Are you fully conversant with the safe operation of workshop equipment, including (if applicable) brake rolling road testers, tracking gauges, hydraulic vehicle lifts, pressurized oil and waste systems, battery chargers and starters, trolley jacks, scaffolding, pressure wash, digital smoke readers, headlamp alignment testers, hydraulic jacks and testing equipment, drilling machines, torque wrenches, pedestal grinders and general portable equipment (i.e. air guns, drills, electric and pneumatic hand tools etc.)? Be fully familiar with all relevant diagnostic equipment including hydraulic flow meters, air and vacuum gauges, multi meters, temperature gauges, micrometres, engine and gearbox laptop testing equipment. Have basic skills in gas and electric welding, burning and basic body repairs. Attend vehicle manufacturer product training courses, VOSA vehicle inspection training and vehicle recovery training as required. HGV licence.
