You’ll be joining our Highways maintenance team, as the UK’s number one highway maintenance contractor, our teams use the latest innovations to create effective solutions. We offer a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes.
What will you be doing?
The Scheduler & Permitter is responsible for the effective coordination and scheduling of operational work across field-based teams. The role ensures daily workloads are optimised, work is sequenced and routed efficiently, and stakeholders are kept informed where plans change.
- Scheduling & Workload Management
- Coordinate and schedule daily work for field operatives / engineers across multiple workstreams, ensuring plans are realistic and achievable.
- Optimise daily workloads so each operative has a balanced schedule that maximises productivity while remaining safe and compliant.
- Allocate additional or filler tasks where required to ensure effective use of available resource.
- Review upcoming work and make adjustments to reflect priorities, resource availability and operational constraints.
- Ensure all work is scheduled in line with relevant policies, procedures and safety requirements.
- Planning, Sequencing & Delivery
- Support Plan and sequence work effectively, taking account of geography, skills, job type and priority.
- Monitor delivery throughout the shift, responding to changes such as delays, overruns or resource issues.
- Dynamically adjust schedules to manage emerging issues and minimise disruption to delivery.
- Identify emergency management to service or performance targets and take appropriate action, escalating risks when required.
- Task & Data Management
- Cancel, re-raise and re-schedule work that has not been completed, ensuring no tasks are left unmanaged.
- Carry out routine data cleansing activities to maintain accurate and reliable scheduling information.
- Update scheduling and operational systems with clear, timely and accurate notes.
- Confirm job completion and ensure system records reflect actual delivery.
- Communication & Stakeholder Updates
- Act as a key link between the scheduling function and field-based teams, providing timely and accurate updates.
- Communicate changes to plans promptly when work cannot be completed as scheduled.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and, where applicable, customers or client representatives to manage expectations.
- Monitor and respond to email and telephone enquiries related to scheduling activity in a professional and timely manner.
- Reporting & Handover
- Produce accurate whereabouts and progress reports to support operational visibility and performance management.
- Highlight outstanding issues, risks or follow-up actions to ensure effective ongoing delivery.
