Where will you be working? At M Group Highways, we’re supporting the safe transportation and movement of people across the UK. You’ll be joining our Highways maintenance team, as the UK’s number one highway maintenance contractor, our teams use the latest innovations to create effective solutions. We offer a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes.
We’re looking for part time HGV Cat C (Class 2) drivers, with CPC, to work on our Hampshire Highways Maintenance contract as Winter Maintenance drivers. The drivers will be appointed on a temporary contract to cover the Winter Maintenance season from 1st October 2026 until 30th April 2027. We are looking for suitable candidates to work on a zero-hour contract basis. Interviews for successful candidates will be scheduled from September onwards. We welcome applications from individuals who can travel to the Depot within approximately 45 minutes.
What will you be doing? You’ll drive a Winter Maintenance Gritting Vehicle for the duration of the winter maintenance season, being allocated to a rota within the Hampshire area. We’ll need you to be on standby alternate weeks i.e., one week on standby followed by one week off throughout the winter maintenance season. You’ll undertake the gritting of the roads on your allocated route and all the associated activities required to deliver the Winter Service.
What you’ll bring:
- A full UK driving licence with HGV Class 2 (category C) entitlement and a full CPC is essential.
- A valid Winter Maintenance qualification or experience. If, however, training is required, training for the City and Guilds qualification will be arranged for October 2026.
- The ability to get to your appointed Hampshire Highways Depot within 1 hour’s notice.
What’s in it for you? The Winter Maintenance Season rota will commence on the 1st October 2026 and will finish on the 30th April 2027. Drivers must commit to being on standby alternate weeks for the duration of the service. A week on standby on the Friday and the following Friday. When you are on Standby, you can be called out at any time to undertake a grit run.
