Where will you be working?

We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards. We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure. This role will be within our demand management and network infrastructure team. We look after 60 million meters and our teams provide advanced metering solutions to help manage demand for essential suppliers.

What will you be doing?

Are you an experienced utility detection professional ready to lead standards, innovation and safety across a major water infrastructure contract? As our Utility Service Coordinator you'll take ownership of underground utility detection and service identification across Thames Water Retail contracts. This leadership role is responsible for driving best practice, ensuring compliance, and embedding a safety-first culture through the effective use of CAT, Genny and CLAMPON technologies. You will lead utility detection standards, oversee survey teams and subcontractors, conduct audits, investigate utility strikes and near misses, and champion continuous improvement. Working closely with Project Managers, SHEQ teams, clients and regulatory bodies, you will provide expert guidance on safe excavation planning and risk mitigation.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of HSG47, NRSWA and PAS 128, proven experience in utility detection and investigations, and a passion for developing people through training, mentoring and competency management. What you’ll bring

  • Substantial experience in utility detection, mapping, or asset management, including leadership in managing teams and technology deployment (CAT, Genny, and CLAMPON).
  • Advanced technical understanding of underground detection devices, including operational capabilities, limitations, and digital data management.
  • Experience of developing, coaching, and supporting diverse teams.
  • Strong record in procedural compliance, conducting audits, and leading investigative reviews.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation, standards, and industry best practices (HSG47, NRSWA, PAS 128).
